The Marvin Range

Marvin /65

22. Marvin / 65

Probably the most sought after Burns guitar ever. Made famous by Hank B. Marvin (who was involved in the design) and The Shadows. The guitar was made in 350 copies, and was fitted with a new kind of neck with scrollhead, new Rez-o-Matic pick-ups, a new stall, and a vibrato system (Rez-o-Tube) in which the strings passed through the body in pipes specially tuned according to the resonance of each individual string. The matching bass was called the Shadows Bass. 1964-1965.

Marvin S

34. Marvin S / 65-66 (prototype).

Unique guitar. Has been owned and played by Hank B. Marvin himself. Was used on The Shadows' Australian tour. Only three of these were made for The Shadows, and one of these were trashed. Sound pockets in the guitar served to give it a softer sound. Didn't come into serial production until the mid-90s. In Pearls and Crazy Diamonds, one chapter will deal with The Shadows and that particular era in their carreer when they made extensive use of Burns guitars.

25. Double Six /64

The guitar to a large extent responsible for the British sound of the sixties. Used by The Searchers, Shadows, Troggs, as well as most other UK bands. It was also a favourite of Elvis'. Essentially, the guitar was a 12-string Marvin with TriSonic pick-ups and a simpler bridge. (1964-65).
